Reading Hotel Pickup Before Songkran

How Bangkok revenue managers can use occupancy dashboards to separate festival compression from ordinary weekday soft spots.

Songkran weeks in Bangkok rarely behave like a standard holiday. Leisure arrivals cluster on specific nights, while corporate midweek demand often thins earlier than the calendar suggests. An occupancy dashboard that only shows total rooms sold hides that split.

Start with lead-time bands. Festival guests often book either very early (packages) or in the final fortnight. If your chart collapses all lead times into one pace line, you will misread both the early sell-out risk and the late-fill opportunity.

Next, separate domestic leisure from international leisure and from corporate. Songkran occupancy can look healthy in aggregate while the corporate segment collapses—exactly when a revenue manager might otherwise hold rates too high on shoulder nights.

Finally, annotate the dashboard with house-use and group blocks. Many Bangkok hotels see temporary room holds for events that never convert. Marking those holds keeps the sellable occupancy view honest for the yield meeting.
